Xyden Presents: Carbonite - Automatic Online Backups

We took Carbonite for a test drive and found it very easy to use. In fact, it was so easy to use, that we continue to use it on all our workstations and even our server.

At first, we were a bit nervous about the concept. It takes quite awhile to backup a few gigabytes of data, but once the initial backup is done, Carbonite runs in the background, occupying very few system resources, continuously backing up our data over encrypted connections, so your data is secure.

True story: During the San Diego fires in October 2007, we had a client in Rancho Bernardo that couldn't get to their office to grab their backup tapes. We were able to install Carbonite remotely. As the fires raged around the Rancho Bernardo neighborhoods surrounding this office, their data was silently being protected by Carbonite and backed up to an offsite location.
